Through his late father, an alumnus of the United States Coast Guard and an avid boating enthusiast, John L. Ellis III discovered his own interest in piloting the seas. Now captain of his own vessel, the Island Prince, John whisks passengers away on cruises, fishing excursions and private charters in the areas surrounding Bidderford Pool, Saco Bay and Pine point. The 2.5 hour morning or evening cruises can facilitate sightings of Minke whales and Harbor porpoises before passing nearby scenic spots such as Wood Island Lighthouse, Old Orchard Beach and numerous Saco Bay islands.
THE ISLAND PRINCE IS A USCG INSPECTED VESSEL. THIS VESSEL IS STABILITY TESTED IN OPEN OCEAN OUTSIDE OF 20 MILES FOR 38 PASSENGERS AND CREW. VESSELS CARRYING MORE THAT 6 PASSENGERS FOR HIRE REQUIRE A LICENCED MASTER CAPTAIN, THE COAST GUARD INSPECTS THE VESSEL ANNUALLY.
SIX PAC BOATS ARE NOT COAST GUARD INSPECTED VESSELS. THESE BOATS ARE OFTEN USED FOR SIGHT SEEING AND CHARTER FISHING. THEY REQUIRE A SIX PAC LICENSE TO OPERATE AND ARE LIMITED TO 6 PAYING PASSENGERS.
